The space

Casa Gratitude is a super comfortable new home with a world-class mountain view of the Chirripo Mnt. Range, set on the edge of the village of Canaan de Rivas.

The house has a master bedroom, as well as an office/studio/spare room. It is possible that a separate casita can be added as a third bedroom (for an additional cost). The couch in the living room can second as a guest bed as well as a fold out couch on the covered terrace. The views from the fully stocked modern kitchen are fabulous!! The master bedroom has an inviting bathroom with a bathtub and separate shower. There is a large outside mountain view terrace area overlooking some of the extensive gardens as well as a dipping pool for a refreshing reset! The house also has a sweet outside shower and toilet. The abundant hot water is heated by a rooftop solar water system which has an electric backup.

This Casita next door has its own fiber optic service separate from the main house, so it could also be a good digital nomad option. It is very cozy, secure, and well appointed.

There is Ozzy the awesome cat who lives in the main house. He is a delightful, friendly (but not overly needy) gato who guests often fall in love with! He is indoor/outdoor kitty with window access to the laundry room where he eats and enters the house. All cat supplies and instructions will be supplied. The owner really prefers people who at least like cats ... if not adore them...If you will be renting for a month or more there are options for Ozzy including our wonderful neighbor/friends who could come by and feed if you were taking overnight trips away or if a cat is really not a good idea for you we could look to find a vacation home for him. ;-)... We would prefer it if he could stay here in his own territory.

Unlike many homes in this area, Casa Gratitude is very easily accessible—there is no need for a 4x4 or, for that matter, a car. Busses come here several times a day 7 days a week to go either further up the mountain or bring you to San Isidro… our closest larger town. Ubers also run from San Isidro up to this area for reasonable prices.

There is also a large garden where you would be most welcome to anything that is going off at the time—fresh herbs, greens, cucumbers, tomatoes—it all depends on your timing! You are welcome to do your own plantings while here as well. The landscaping is under development, and fruit and avocado trees are planted. Sometimes loads of bananas! It could be that your stay is right when something delicious is going off. There are well-established citrus trees already for harvest year round.

Keep bananas and papaya on the bird platforms and watch the spectacular comings and goings of numerous species of birds!

INCLUDED: High speed internet, utilities (*Electric is included equal to or under our monthly average per year), towels and linens, grounds keeping.

NOT INCLUDED: Personal hygiene products and Propane.

**NOTE: This home is not suitable for children under 5 or 6 as some of the terraces are very high and not child proof.

Guest access

Casa Gratitude is our main home and we are wanting to try renting it for 1 month (minimum) to several months this year starting somewhere near the end of August 2024 while we travel and explore.

We will stow our personal belongings in the office/guest room locked closets as well as in bins out of the way and also in the bodega under the house. We plan to leave the art up but if a piece doesn’t resonate with you we can certainly put that away too.

We have maintained a vegetable garden which you can have full access to… either maintaining it yourselves for continued use or you can let it go…. As you wish.

Other things to note

We think this is really one of the most beautiful, livable, special places in Costa Rica (if you, like us prefer the mountains to the beaches) That said the beach is only an hour and 20 minutes or so drive.

The temperatures are in the 'goldilocks zone'... No need for AC and no need for heat!.

It is quiet and relaxed here on the mountain yet there are numerous opportunities for participating in everything from great swimming holes and beautiful hikes to open mics and ecstatic dances... Yoga, QiGong, and other fitness classes. There's a few decent restaurants and a wonderful Feria' (farmers market) every Wednesday in the area.

San Isidro el General is our closest 'big city' and there is a large Feria' every Thursday there as well as many store for any supplies you might need as well as services. It is only a 30 minute drive down the mountain. Just a couple of minutes walk from the house is Batsu' Gastropub and also La Estreilla Bakery. Canaan has a family run cheese making facility that uses local grass fed free range cows and goats milk. They also sell butter, yogurt and various other wonderful items.

INCLUDED: High speed internet, utilities, towels and linens, secure parking lot.

NOT INCLUDED: Personal hygiene products

POLICIES: No pets allowed.

PRICE: $2500 a month + extra if you take the casita as part of the deal.
